The Congress stock checker, explained.
What it shows
- Members of Congress who bought or sold each stock or fund in the last 90 days, with the amount range they reported.
- How many of the top fund managers Instaport tracks held it at the end of their latest reported quarter.
- Open-market buys and sells by the company’s own officers, directors and 10% owners in the last 90 days.
What a Congress trade is
Members of Congress must publicly report stock trades over $1,000 by themselves, their spouses and dependent children, no later than 45 days after the trade. They report the amount as a range, such as $1,001–$15,000, not an exact figure.
How Instaport tracks them
Instaport reads each new disclosure as it is published and matches it to the stock or fund, so you can check any ticker in seconds and get an alert the day a new trade in a stock you own goes public.
Questions people ask about the Congress checker.
How does the Congress stock checker work?
Type up to 10 stock or ETF tickers, separated by commas, and press Check. For each one you see the members of Congress who bought or sold it in the last 90 days, how many of the top funds Instaport tracks held it at the end of Q2 2026, and the open-market buys and sells by company insiders in the last 90 days.
Where does the data come from?
From public government filings: the periodic transaction reports members of Congress file with the House Clerk and the Senate’s eFD system, the SEC Form 13F reports fund managers file each quarter, and the SEC Form 4 reports company insiders file when they trade.
Is the Congress stock checker free?
Yes. It is free, needs no account and checks up to 10 tickers at a time. The tickers you type are not saved to any account or list.
How up to date is it?
Members of Congress have up to 45 days to report a trade, so a new trade can be several weeks old when it appears. Fund managers file Form 13F within 45 days after each quarter ends, and insiders file Form 4 within two business days of a trade. Instaport adds each filing as it is published.
Can I get alerts on my stocks?
Yes. Create a free Instaport account and add your stocks. You get an alert the day a member of Congress, a top fund manager or a company insider reports a trade in one of them.
