What is a 13F filing?

Institutional investment managers with $100 million or more in qualifying US securities must file Form 13F with the SEC every quarter, within 45 days of the quarter’s end. It lists their long positions in US-listed stocks and certain related securities as of the quarter end. Short positions and cash are not reported.

How this list is counted

Each row counts the top funds Instaport tracks whose latest 13F lists the stock as shares (options are left out). Stocks are ranked by the number of funds holding them, then by their total reported value. The change column compares the same funds’ reports for the quarter before.

Questions people ask about what top funds own.

Which stocks do top funds own the most?

In Q2 2026, the stocks held by the most of the top funds Instaport tracks were Amazon Com (AMZN) (74 top funds), Alphabet (GOOGL) (67 top funds) and Microsoft (MSFT) (65 top funds), based on their 13F reports for the quarter ended Jun 30, 2026.

What is a 13F filing?

Form 13F is a quarterly report that investment managers with $100 million or more in qualifying US securities file with the SEC within 45 days of each quarter’s end. It lists the stocks and certain related securities they held on the quarter’s last day. Short positions and cash are not reported.

Why is 13F data delayed?

Because the rules allow it: a fund has up to 45 days after a quarter ends to file, and the report shows holdings as of the quarter’s last day, so a fund may have bought or sold since. Q3 2026 reports (holdings as of Sep 30, 2026) are due by Nov 14, 2026, and this list moves to Q3 2026 once most of the tracked funds have filed.

How does Instaport count the most-held stocks?

It counts how many of the top funds it tracks list the stock as shares in their latest 13F, leaving out options, and ranks stocks by that number, then by total reported value. The change in holders compares the same funds’ reports for the quarter before, so a fund that filed late is never counted as a seller.

Does a stock being widely held by top funds mean it is a good buy?

Not on its own. A 13F shows what a fund held at the end of a quarter, up to 45 days before it is public, and it does not show short positions, hedges or why the fund bought. Instaport shows these holdings as information, not as a recommendation.

Can I get an alert when a top fund buys a stock I own?

Yes. Instaport’s free account sends an alert when a top fund’s new 13F shows it bought or sold a stock you own.
